Dr. Juan Cuellar

Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Juan Cuellar has years of experience in performing both cosmetic and reconstructive procedures. Having trained with some of the best surgical practitioners in the world, he is well-versed in the most cutting-edge surgical techniques. He currently provides his expert care to patients at the Ariel Center.

Education

Dr. Cuellar received his medical degree from La Salle University, one of the most highly revered schools of medicine in all of Latin America. After graduating with honors, he completed a residency and postgraduate training in a highly renowned plastic surgery training program.

He then went on to complete his postgraduate studies as part of the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico (UNAM) medical residency program. He followed that up with three years of training in general surgery at the Hospital Español de México.

He then participated in a plastic aesthetic and reconstructive surgery residency at the Hospital General "Manuel Gea González " in Mexico City. It was during this residency that he trained with some of the most highly-renowned plastic surgery professors in the world, such as Dr. Fernando Ortiz Monasterio. During his residency, Dr. Cuellar performed over one thousand surgical procedures.

His training didn’t end there. He then spent three years working on fellowships in cosmetic surgery, microsurgery, and craniofacial surgery at high-ranked institutions such as the University of California Los Angeles.

Honors & Awards

Throughout his training and career, Dr. Juan Cuellar has received many honors and awards, such as a recognition for high performance in medical school, a high academic achievement recognition by the National Evaluation Center, an honorable mention during his clinical internship, best research project award during his research internship, and best lecture presentation and research project award in the yearly research contest of the Mexican Association of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He also received a grant from the World Craniofacial Foundation for an International Craniofacial Fellowship.

Philanthropic Work

Beyond the work at his practice, Dr. Cuellar has offered his expertise to various non-profit surgery programs and mission trips in Mexico and abroad, allowing him to give back. Much of this experience involved treating and caring for patients with cleft lip and palate and other craniofacial abnormalities.

Following this trend, Dr. Cuellar recently co-founded “The Power of a Smile Foundation”, a non-profit organization that funds surgical treatments for patients struggling with cleft lip and palate as well as other congenital craniofacial disorders. He also served as an expert consultant for a reconstructive surgery documentary film titled Beautiful Faces.

Beyond these achievements, Dr. Cuellar remains an active member of multiple scientific societies, including the International Confederation for Plastic Reconstructive Aesthetic Surgery, the Ibero Latin American Federation of Plastic Surgery, the Mexican Association of Plastic Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery, the “Dr. Fernando Ortiz Monasterio” Plastic Surgery Association, La Salle University Medical Society, The Smile Train Foundation for Cleft Lip and Palate, and several others.
